Circle of Silence
2019
Project made for Module 3: Typography and Illustration. "Signs of demonstration", Visual Communication + Change, Linnaeus University, Kalmar, Sweden
22th July 2016 the Swedish government put a new law to force that changed the possibilities to get an asylum in Sweden. This new law only granted people a temporary asylum (SFS 2016:752) and many of those who were granted one came from Afghanistan. Today, people who have lived in Sweden for several years and have built a new life here suddenly face the fear of having to go back to the country they fled from. At the same time, Swedish government are telling swedes that they should avoid all travels to that area because it´s not safe.
Why would it be safer for them, than it´s for us?
The Circle of Silence is inspired by a protest movement started in Toulouse, France 2007. It acts as a way of showing solidarity with asylum seekers and the hardships they face.

The demonstration sign was activated at Larmtorget in Kalmar between 30th November and 2nd December 2019.
